Meet Kam Royal...

Name: Kam Royal - Eli Kamerow
Hometown: Washington D.C. I've lived half my life in Chevy Chase MD and half in
Washington D.C. Where I was born, and Currently live.
Age: 20

At what point did you start writing songs?
I wrote my first rap ever in 5th grade. I wrote my first track trying to take it seriously a little less than a year ago.

Were you inspired by any specific artists?
Other artists have definitely been a huge influence on me. Some of my biggest influences have been and continue to be: Jay-Z, Ludacris, Big L, The Notorious BIG, J Cole, Drake, and Tech Nine. Each one has had a tremendous impact on my career.

Where does your stage name come from?
I really want to start a THC-infused cooking oil company once marijuana is legalized. My last name is "Kamerow" (rhymes with hammer toe) + "oil" sounds like Kam Royal. When it came time to get a rap name I thought that sounded tight because its close to my last name which means a lot to me as I'm incredibly proud of who I am and my family. I liked Royal because of the word connotations associated with that word.

Was this an independent idea or did/does somebody help you out with your music?
My homie Ben was the first dude when I got to college who suggested I take rapping more seriously but beyond that it's been a solo route. Not to say I don't have tons of people supporting me and my music (off the top shout out Zach, Jesse, Sam Karp, my parents, and everyone who I didn't mention but knows they deserve it.)

What’s the overall message you’re trying to give to the audience?
Though some of my tracks may have more meaning or a message attached, I'm not out there everyday with an agenda. I feel like there was and still is a glaring lack of white rappers WITH TALENT who just love to rap and do so accordingly. I feel like most white rappers out (not that I compare myself to white rappers but I'm pigeonholed into that category because I am white haha) were/are either angry or political or whatever else you want and none of them were out there just spitting cause they loved hip hop. That's what I'm trying to do. I'm blessed to have had a wonderful life so far, so I wouldn't be true to myself if I was out there on some Eminem shit or whatever. One thing I definitely do in my music is stay true to myself.

Have you ever played any instruments, or any other musical background?
I played French Horn in 4th grade and guitar for a few years. Nothing to serious.

What genre would you consider your music to be in?
Hip-Hop. Period. I feel like hip-hop is when you take this music we all love so much and put your own spin on it. So yeah, I might get crucified for this, but I think what dudes like Waka and Soulja Boy are doing is hip-hop. So are dudes ranging from Kweli to Kanye to Big Daddy Kane to whoever. Do you. That's hip-hip.

What’s your favorite part of being a musician?
It's crazy when random people hit me up saying how much my music has impacted them. I also love doing shows. Nothing compares to rocking a crowd live.

What’s your least favorite part of being a musician?
Two things. The first is being patient. I had my mix tape done like a month and a half before I dropped it. Some of the tracks I've been sitting on since November or December. It's really hard to sit on music you know is good while the general public doesn't really have a good idea of the music I'm making or what I'm capable of. The second thing is that everyone has an opinion. I'm not talking about random people being negative online, that doesn't bother me. Its difficult for me when I'm working on a track and I'll show it to three different friends, each of whom I admire along with respect for their taste in music, and they all have different opinions. Sometimes its tough to separate  yourself from the music and your best friends' advice and make the right decision.

What’s your favorite thing to do in your free time?
Chill with my boys. Smoke. Drink. Watch Basketball. And Above all make music. I never consider it work so when I'm writing songs or recording because I love it so much.

"Some Thoughts"

Not exactly sure how this song only has about 12,000 views on youtube. Hopefully we can get that way up. When the first line is "I'm from the home of Strasburg, John Wall, and Ovechkin, the Nationals, the Capitals, the Wizards, and the redskins" you know it's going to have some sick lines. Definitely a huge thumbs up.

Keep It Alive
"Dude"
Probably Kam's most popular video/song, "Dude" is shot in Mr. Chill's First Class Cuts down in New Orleans. Kam gives a shout out to Mr. Chill for letting them do the video there and he thanks Tyler Lee, the producer, for the "terrific job" he did. Great video. The beat and flow to this song is incredible, give it at least two listens. We guarantee you'll like it and want more. Worst case scenario you'll be walking around for a couple days singing about how you get your "fresh on".

Want to get Kam Royal's music?

Producer: Felix Beats in New Orleans, Kid Vision in NY, Smoke Trixx in DC. (Also Kam Royal has worked with RahSol and Einstein). Kam encourages anybody with beats to hit him up.
"Felix is best at making beats that just keep you moving. You can't help it, that shit comes on and its pulsing in your body. "
"Vision is the most consistent producer Ive worked with. As an artist its hard to separate yourself from what you've created and be sure it really is a good, worthwhile piece of music. Either KV is so talented that he doesn't make bad beats, or he has learned to separate his good works from his bad."
"Smoke Trixx is the craziest producer I know. You never know what he's gonna make next. He's also the single most talented drummer I know and writes some ridiculous beats on drums. "

Signed By: Kam is looking to stay independent for at least two more years.

How To Get his Mix-tape: Datpiff.
But the best way to stay up to date with my music is to follow me on twitter www.twitter.com/kamroyal or facebook www.facebook.com/kamroyal. That’s the stuff I keep most recent with my releases and whatnot.

Lyrics for "Some Thoughts"
Kam Royal

Yo whatup kid
Whatup grumble

There’s no real structure to this song man…it’s it’s just some thoughts
I’m from the home of Strasburg, John Wall, and Ovechkin, the Nationals, the Capitals, the Wizards, and the Redskins,
All of it, the monuments,
Where the president lives…
yo let me catch my breath quick

Look, my momma said it’s hard to find a bigger heart than mine,
From the second that we're all born we all start to die

Me and the homies pass the herb and philosophize
while the flower burns we take turns sharing what’s on our minds
Thoughts wonder while the funky ganja circulates

What I’m puffin on is stronger than Hercules
Kid made this beat perfectly.
So I gotta come with a clean flow on a dirty beat
Pretty girls see my heart, commit burglary
- Show quoted text -
Encouraged me to think there was something between her and me
But nothing on the earth is free
So when love ran out
As I ran out of currency
Currently I’m doing pretty good
Living life chasing dreams doing everything you wish you could
I heard you miss every shot if you don’t take it
I’m not saying that I made it
But I’m clearly on my way friend
Sick of being a pawn
I wanna play chess
It’s hard to see what’s going on now that Marvin Gay’s dead
Some days I just lay in bed
Stare at the ceiling
And figure out ways for me to stay ahead
Every time you win, someone loses
So I’m making rules while you kids make excuses
Actions are louder than words, you gotta do shit
I dedicate this to music
Yo, this the type of shit you nod your head to
That makes you feel special when the world is out to get you
Flow out of the world, Jupiter or Neptune,
Shittin on the beat like I was sitting in the restroom
Above your head like jet blue
I might not be the best yet
But you can bet I’ll be the best soon
I drop science like my words were made in test tubes
But it still feels like everybody pressed snooze

I never lose but that doesn’t mean I’m always winnin’
My mommas mad cause she knows her boy is always sinning
Some people ask, Kam, could you would you do it different?
Come on are you kiddin?
Hey, hey, it’s time to grow now
I left my hometown livin on my own now
Hey, hey, when I come home its strange cause people keep tellin’ me that I changed

Hey, hey, it’s time to grow now
I live in my hometown livin’ on my own now
When I come home its strange cause some people keep on tellin me that I changed

I mean I guess I did change
But I don’t really like calling it that
I prefer to say that I’m growing
I'm Developing

You know it’s only been a year that I’ve been doing this
I don’t know where I’m going to be in another year
But I can’t wait to find out.
